Welcome!

WELCOME!

I started this blog to help myself track my fashion evolution. I have gotten a lot of inspiration from other bloggers out there, and maybe someday I can do the same for someone else.

Same Ole' Shoes

I'm starting to realize just how often I wear these boring old shoes.  My biggest problem is that my feet get cold way too easily, and most of my shoes don't help.  I'm working on getting some boots that should help alleviate that problem.

On another note, I liked my neck bow today!  I will have to work one into my outfits more often.

Give It Away Now

I was trying to find another way to wear this sweater besides by itself.  I don't know that this worked out very well though.  The proportions are just off somehow.  I may give up and donate it.

Too Much?

This outfit may have had too much going on for the people I work with. Stripes & ruffley flowers?  Crazy!  At least multiple shirts keep me warm at work.  I swear thermostats are always set by men, which leaves me cold all day.

Wide Pattern

I really liked the pattern on this vest when I bought it, but I hated the way it looked every time I tried to wear it because it made my torso look extra-wide.  Then I read about something similar on Fashion For Nerds.  She fixed the problem by wearing a cardigan over top, so that it creates vertical lines.  I tried it, and voila!  I call it a success.

Neutrals with a Bright

I've seen a lot of people mixing one bright color with neutrals, and I've liked the way it looks.  This was my attempt at it.  I think it turned out pretty well.  Plus the headband gave a little extra color, while making my hair much easier to do. Bonus!

Preppy with a Puppy

Another guest appearance by one of the many animals living in my house: my dog Zoe.  She is a mutt - part heeler, part border collie.  She follows me around the house everywhere I go.

I bought this skirt on eBay and thought I would wear it once as-is to see how it looked.  I feel like it is a little too long, so I may try to hem it up.  These shoes were in my donate box, but it's a good thing I hadn't given them away yet.  I didn't have any other shoes to wear with this outfit, but they were just perfect!  Back in my closet they go...

Belted

I love this belt.  My dad made it and gave it to me for Christmas several years ago.  It has all the phases of the moon on it, amidst the red design.  I also have a brown leather belt with dragons on it that he made for himself a few decades ago.  He was just wearing it to work in the yard, so I confiscated it to put it to better use.

What a Hoot

I got this owl necklace on eBay for $1.67.  I like it a lot, but my favorite reason to wear it is to bug my mom.  She is really irritated that owls are back in style.

All Wrapped Up

This cardigan is quite long in front.  I usually let it stay long, or tie it in front.  This time I decided to wrap the long ends all the way around.  I think it looks pretty cute, but it was a pain to wear.  I kept having to readjust and keep the ends tucked into the belt all day.

Weekend Wear

I just thought I would give you an example of my usual weekend attire.  It is a bit boring, which is why I don't usually take pictures.  This is my very cozy X-Men t-shirt.  (I am also wearing slippers.)  One of my cats, Madeline, decided to make an appearance.

Layered Tights

I layered tights!  It's an achievement for me.  I really like how this look came together.  There's a lot more going on than I am used to.

You may have noticed that I have a lot of clothes from Express.  That because I bought most of my more professional looking office pieces there, back when I was dressing boringly.  They fit me well though, so I am just mixing them in with the rest of my closet to keep getting my money's worth.

So Sorry

I promise I have still been taking photos, but the last couple of weeks have been a little crazy and I haven't had time to post.  To read about why, please see my non-fashion blog Charlotte's Chitter Chatter.  Thank you for your patience!

A Little Groovy

EDIT:  I just realized that this was supposed to post last week, but I still had it in drafts!

The print of this shirt seems a bit psychedelic to me for some reason.  I love it anyway.  The brown of the outline in the print exactly matches my brown slacks. The back of the shirt has some interesting gathers.  I'm not sure if I like them or not.  It doesn't matter either way if I keep wearing a cardigan over it.

Layers

This is the first time I have layered quite like this.  It is a sleeveless mock turtleneck under a v-neck sweater.  It actually worked out nicely I think!  I ended up changing shoes after I took this picture.  It was a bit too cold for exposed toes, but I wish I could have worn them.  They are purple snakeskin and I love them!

Tights

This is actually the first time I had worn tights since I was a little girl.  They always looked cute on other people though, so I thought I would give it a shot.  I didn't want to spend a lot of money on them if I didn't know if I would wear them or not.  I found some at Saver's (new) when they had their Halloween costumes out for $2.50 a pair, and bought a few colors to try out.  My hubby still isn't too sure about them.  I will get to the crazier colors a little bit later, but stuck with gray for my first try.

Black

This whole outfit ended up very dark, but I like it anyway.  The top actually has very small white polka-dots on it, which I thought went well with my bubbly necklace

Keeping It Simple

This shirt is one of my favorites that I own.  I found it on a girls weekend up in Park City at the Banana Republic Outlet, which is about the only time I can afford to purchase their clothes.  I have only recently started wearing scarves, so I just decided to keep it simple.

Pattern Mixing

This is my first deliberate attempt at pattern mixing.  I decided to keep with neutrals to make it easier on myself.  I liked the look a lot more in person.  In the photo the gray in the vest doesn't seem to match the black in the shirt at all.  How can gray and black NOT match?  The mysteries of color...

On a second note, this pic is a bit out of order.  This was actually my last day at my old job.  I see a bit of trepidation peeking out of my expression. I also wore my sensible shoes because I knew I would be hauling boxes out to my car all day.

Blurry

Sorry, again...  I think this is the worst one of the bunch.

The gray tank is new.  I just wanted to wear something so you could see the scooped hemline.  I like the way it turned out!  Just the right mix of casual and fancy for work.

Dottie

I bought this dress years ago in Las Vegas when we were there for a friend's wedding.  I haven't worn it much since then because the top is VERY low cut. I decided to go through my closet to see what dresses I had that could be worn as skirts, and this one was perfect!

New Beginnings

I wore this to the first day at my new job.  I found the cardigan on clearance and loved the lace detail on the sleeves.I also really liked the way my scarf turned out.  Sorry I didn't get a very good photo of it.  The tank top is really more of a reddish-orange, rather than the pink it looks like in the photo.

I'll Figure It Out

I've really wanted a lace shirt for a while.  When I found this one on clearance I grabbed it, but I still haven't totally figured out what to do with it yet.  This is the first time I wore it, with just a sweater vest over top.  I did get a couple of compliments, so I must not have done too bad for my first try!

Sassy Skirt

I read on another blog somewhere that Asos.com had started shipping to the US with free shipping both ways, so immediately had to go check it out.  They have so many clothes it is hard to pick just a few.  I ordered some things, and ended up returning a few of them, but it was so easy!

This skirt is one of the things I kept.  The pattern is a little more loud than I am used to, but I have decided that I need a little more of that in my closet.  Plus, it has a fun side-kick gather.  The day I wore it I got many compliments, and was told that I looked "sassy".

Quick Pick

I purchased this dress on a recent trip to Denver because all I had left to wear were pants and an unbreathing shirt and I was roasting hot.  I just ran into Target, found the first thing I saw that looked like it would work, bought it, and ran out.  I have been so happy that it was this dress I grabbed.  I love it!  The floral pattern just adds something that my closet was missing before.  The top is a bit skimpy so I usually cover up a bit when I wear it.

Out the Door

I love sweater season.  The main reason?  You can throw one on in a hurry when you're running late, and you still look polished.  This is the first time I pulled out a sweater this fall - short sleeves since it was still a little warm during the day.

Leopard Print

It took a while to work up to wearing this dress at work.  It is cut very modestly, but it is very skin-hugging.

I was hot on top all day.  I was wearing another shirt under the dress because the trim around the arms is very scratchy.

First Up? An Appology.

Why?  Because the outfit photos I have been taking for a while looked just fine on the three inch camera screen, but blown up on the computer?  Not so much.  Many are very blurry, but it's too late to do anything about it now.  Oh well, you live and you learn, right?  I promise to improve in the future.

I decided to start a fashion blog because I have found so many great ideas from other fashion bloggers.  If you follow my links button on the rights, you will find a list of all my favorite fashion blogs, though there are many other great ones out there.  Also, I have heard mentioned many times that looking back at your prior outfits can really help you figure out what shapes and colors complement you.  I have also heard that it takes a while to get good at posing, so it may take me a little while to get into the swing of things.  I am hoping to learn a lot from this experience.

This is me!  I tried to pick a pretty clear one for my first photo so you can actually see my face.  Most of the outfits I will be posting is what I wear to work.  Since I look nicer all week, I don't often dress up on the weekends.  I'm more of a t-shirt and jeans kind of gal when I get to relax.

I love bright colors, so I was pretty happy with the way this outfit turned out. Just enough to create interest, but without being garish.
